Fonseca

Douro

2011 Fonseca Vintage Port
APR 16 Deep ruby. Dark fruits, spices, rich, fruity, intense, layered, nuanced, deep. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe, layered, detailed, superb fruit and lovely balance. I said it last time I tasted it, like a pure, youthful version of the stunning 1963. Having had that yet again just a few weeks back, it still reminds me of it. 95

1963 Fonseca's Vintage Port
FEB 12 Garnet, brick rim. Astonishing nose, so layered and nuanced, complex, floral, all sorts of berries and cakes, like entering a patisserie, a spice shop, and a regular bakery at once. Superb! Fairly sweet attack, superb acidity, coffee, mocha, dark chocolate, very long indeed, my second bottle, very similar from the last, this one slightly more nuanced. 96

1963 Fonseca Vintage Port
JAN 10 Bright brick, thin orange rim, extremely complex, some dark fruits, prunes and figs, leather, coffee, hints of chocolate, fantastic balance, intense yet elegant, very long finish, a beauty of a Port. Fantastic now, I would not keep it. 96
