1999 Aldo Conterno Barolo Granbussia Riserva
JAN 10 Ruby with brick rim, needs a lot of air to open, then some tar, roses a minute later, swirl and swirl, some oak notes appears, then violets, more floral, gets fresher and fresher, liquorice and slight volatility. Intense after ten minutes, fantastic freshness, great balance, extremely complex, very elegant tannins, soft for a Barolo, fresh but not high acidity again for a Barolo, hints of Earl Grey tea, a bit sweet fruit, and great long finish. Hides 14,5 alcohol very well, not warm at all, just a bit sweet. Keeps well, but maybe the structure isn't for the long haul.

1998 Aldo Conterno Barolo Granbussia
JUL 11 Garnet with thin brick rim. Starting out vulgarly sweet and felt almost tired, but after ten fifteen minutes starting to smarten up, think a guy, sweating from basketball or football practice, then taking a shower, and smarting up for the evening in a tuxedo. (A Barolo will never be a girl) That was the transformation on this one, acidity sharpened things up, getting maybe not more structured, but more nuanced, more and more refined, more and more layers, ending up with a superb truffle and rose nose. 93

Bright garnet, some sediments, A level fill. Anise, tar, mahogany and lacquer, sour cherries, even unripe strawberries and raspberries. Fresh acidity, mouthwatering, ripe tannins, building a wall, complex, refreshing for its age, fantastic finish.
