Orange zest, nuts, dried apricots, layered nose. Fresh acidity, even on the high side, giving liveliness and playfulness to the wine. Lovely balance and long length. 90

Even as the cork went out of the bottle, it filled the room with aromas, pouring it into the glass; one could just sit and sniff it while the glass still rested on the table, getting ever more intense as the nose and glass finally met up. Enormous intensity, layers, superb complexity, has almost every aroma you can think of, dried fruits, smoky hints, cakes, spices, wood polish, just ads and ads. Fresh and high acidity, intense, layered, fantastic length, minutes, could still taste it half an hour after the last sip. 100

He reckons it to be one of the best Madeira’s Barbeito has ever had, and he has had this bottle opened in his office for many years, taking a small sip a few times a year to have a taste of perfection. I was lucky enough to have a small sip. Amber with orange hints, light oxidation, raisins, figs, almost sweet nose, nuts, citrus, even the small amount in the glass fills the room with aromas, massive nose, extremely complex. The palate is as extreme as the nose, the acidity dances back and forth on the tongue for minutes, always with new flavours, aftertaste for many minutes, extreme wine. 100
