Bright ruby. Lightly scented, red berries, light cherry stone note. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh if slightly hollow palate, sweet and sour finish.

Ruby. Dark fruits, plums, rich and jammy nose, alcohol. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, sweet, ripe, feels flat and lacks life, high alcohol (15%) doesn’t help much. For me unbalanced. 88

2010 Mastrojanni rosso di Montalcino
JAN 14 Bright ruby. Fruity, scented, red berries, quite flirting bottle. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, quite detailed, refreshing, anise note, cherries, slightly warm.

2009 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto
FEB 14 Ruby. Red berries, some floral notes, fairly elegant nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity and rounded, one of the fresher this vintage, balanced and long.

OCT 14 Bright ruby, garnet rim. Dark fruits, liquorice, leather, scented, heavier floral notes, almost sweet lilies like, intense, almost leaps out of the glass, but also alcohol high notes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, sweet, ripe fruits, cherries, liquorice, stone fruit, slightly bitter, firm finish. Slightly warm. 90

2009 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino
FEB 14 Ruby. Some anise and liquorice nose. Red berries, and figs. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner palate, some sour cherries and anise, good length if a bit lean. 87

2007 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Schiena d'Asino
OCT 14 Bright ruby, brick rim. Intense nose but needs air, scented, liquorice, plums, cherry stone, layers. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, red berries, cherry stones, liquorice, firm, sweet and sour, cherries, long finish.
Firm finish. 92

2007 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Schienna d'Asino
JAN 14 Bright ruby. Fruity, liquorice, cherries, morellos, some plums and figs nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, intense, rich but fairly focused, ripe, bit warm, long.
