SEP 14 Denne dukket første gang opp i 1992 og kommer fra flere vinmarker med alder fra 40 til nesten 120 år. Her møter man en nesten sort farge, tydelig krydret duft, pepper, modne bjørnebær, morbær og sjokolade. Relativt frisk syre, modne tanniner, sødmefullt og rikt, tydelig alkohol og allikevel kommer det frem en svakt mineralsk tone under. Druene høstes enkelte år med så mye som to måneder i mellom de første shirazparsellene og de siste mourvedre. Server den noe kjølig. 87

2012 Penfolds Bin 23 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir.

SEP 14 Druematerialet til denne vinen kommer fra rundt tyve vinmarker rundt omkring i Adelaide Hills. Dette er ikke ett forsøk på å ligne en burgunder med en parfymert tyngre fruktig duft med bjørnebær, krydder og bringebær på duft. Litt fataromaer og trevirke og den har ligget 12 måneder på fat, rundt 35% nye, noe som kunne vært kuttet ned noe for frukten bak er fin, om uvant. Frisk syre, modne tanniner, trevirket kommer litt frem i munn også men en rik sødmefull frukt håndterer det, særlig med mat til. Dette er i følge Penfolds selv ikke noe langtidslagringsprosjekt men den kan tåle noen år hevder de. Jeg heller mot samme konklusjon, men vil gi den litt luft og servere den på den litt kjølige siden da alkoholen kommer om vinen blir litt varm. Om du vil ha den i kjelleren, drikk i løpet av de neste to til fem årene. Men første årgang var i 2009, ikke alle får til slik pinot så raskt. 87

2012 Penfolds Bin 12A Chardonnay

SEP 14 Første årgang var 1994, under skrukork siden 2003 og ble ikke laget i 96, 97, 99, 01, 02 og 11. Druer fra Adelaide Hills, mellom Piccadilly Valley til Birdwood. Fullfermentert i fat og full malolaktisk og 8-9 måneders fatlagring med varierende alder på fatene. Lyst strågul farge, gule epler, mineraler, lett popcorn tone, lett floral og noe krydder og vanilje fra fat på duft. Lett mandarintone med luft. Frisk syre, elegant og kjølig frukt, fin mineralitet og flott integrerte fat. Minner mer om en burgunder en nær sagt all annen nye verden chardonnay jeg har prøvd på svært lenge. Den kjølige frukten hjelpes godt av 12,5 alkohol og man tenker ikke på at dette ikke kan være en Côte de Beaune. Men man har problemer med å finne en kommune til den. Dette er en fantastisk vin å servere folk blindt. Lang finish. 91

Frisk syre, selv om den føles medium for riesling, mykere i kanten, kjøligere stil enn enkelte australske rieslinger men mangler litt liv og detaljer. 85

JAN 16 Opaque. Rich nose, intense, layered, needs hours to open and even after almost seven hours in the glass (after decanting), it still builds. It still ads. Anise, pepper, dark fruits, some red fruits comes and goes, touch of mint and eucalyptus, some vanilla, some spices, some blackberries. Even some floral notes shows up every now and then. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, rich, fruity, sweet dark fruits, layered, detailed, nuanced, but nothing is up front. Everything is hidden, compact and tight, yet it reveals layers upon layers. Long. Very long indeed. Save it for twenty years, will last fifty years more, or longer. 96

Rikt og fruktig men takler det, sødmefull og avrundet, hedonistisk, lang finish. Har knapt smakt denne før men antar femten til tyve år i kjelleren går uproblematisk. 91

SEP 14 Første årgang i 1957 to eksperimentelle årganger før dette ble laget. Shiraz og cabernet blend selv om det kun står shiraz på etiketten. Druer fra hele South-Australia og lagring i gamle 1460 liters fat. Nesten opak farge, sødmefull, bjørnebær, lakris og blåbær på duft, intens, jordbærsyltetøy bakenfor. Frisk syre, modne tanniner, rik og fruktig, strukturert selv om det nesten ikke merkes bak den sødmefulle frukten, heftig. Alkoholen kjennes. 90

OCT 09 Deep ruby and a 2mm of garnet rim. Tobacco, pepper, syrah as from the very best of Rhone, a complexity you only dream about, it's so intense and huge in complexity, you just can't take it apart and describe it, it's too much, the brain shuts down, and just enjoy, immensely! Acidity is incredible, fresh and lively, exceptional balance, great tannin structure, like falling crisp snow, one of the most complex wines I have had, incredible long finish, my best syrah/shiraz, only starting to show signs of maturation, aftertaste for minutes and minutes, keep at least another 20 years if you're lucky. 100
